  • Building a Respectful Campus Contest (the “Contest”)

    CONTEST RULES

    1. Ontario Tech University (“Ontario Tech”), through the Human Rights Office and the Office of the Provost (the “Contest Sponsor”) is holding a Building a Respectful Campus Contest (the “Contest”) to help in reinforcing a campus culture of consent.

    2. CONTEST ENTRY PERIOD.   The Contest is open for Contest Entry (defined below) submissions from August 28, 2025 at 12:00:01 AM until September 26, 2025 on 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time (the “Contest Entry Period”). The Contest Sponsor’s server machine is the official timekeeping device for the Contest.

    3. The Contest is open to any individual who meets the following criteria (hereinafter referred to asEntrant”): 
    • is a legal resident of Canada (except Quebec) at the time of the Contest Entry Period; 
    • who is at least 16 years of age at the time of the Contest Entry Period; and
    • is a current student (full or part-time) at Ontario Tech at the time of the Contest Entry Period; and
    • you are an incoming student who has been admitted to begin studies at Ontario Tech in the Fall 2025 academic term.

    4. You are not eligible to enter the Contest or be selected as a Winner (as defined below) if you are:

    • an employee of the Contest Sponsor, any other company or individual engaged in the provision of good or services, including judging, related to this Contest, or any employee, officer, governor, representative, or agent of Ontario Tech (except for Ontario Tech student employees) (the “Contest Parties”); or
    • a member of the immediate family (parent, child, sibling, or spouse) or household (whether related or not), of any of the Contest Parties.

    1. HOW TO ENTER. No purchase necessary. The Entrant may enter the Contest any time during the Contest Entry Period by successfully completing the Preventing Sexual Violence – Building a Respectful Campus Together training module on Ontario Tech University’s Canvas system (a “Contest Entry”).

    2. CONTEST ENTRY CONDITIONS. There is a limit of one (1) Contest Entry per Entrant during the Contest Entry Period.  If it is discovered that more than one (1) Contest Entry is submitted by an Entrant, then (in the sole and absolute discretion of the Contest Sponsor) the Entrant may be disqualified from the Contest. 

    3.  There are up to five (5) prizes available to be won in the Contest by up to five (5) potential winner(s), each consisting of an Ontario Tech Bookstore gift card valued at $100 (each a “Prize” and collectively “Prizes”). There is a maximum of one (1) Prize available to be won by each potential winner.The odds of winning a Prize are dependent on the number of eligible Contest Entries received by the Sponsor.  The Prize will be delivered to the Winner(s) via a digital gift card or as a physical gift card prior to October 3, 2025, provided that the Winner(s) complies with the requirements set out in these Contest Rules.  The Prize must be accepted as awarded and is not transferable, assignable or convertible to cash (except as may be specifically permitted by the Contest Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion). No substitutions are permitted except at the Contest Sponsor’s sole option. The Contest Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to substitute the Prize with an item or items of equal or greater retail value, including, without limitation, but at the Contest Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion, a cash award. 

    4. WINNER SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION PROCESS. On or about September 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM Eastern Standard Time in Toronto, Ontario, the Contest Sponsor will select at random five (5) potential winners (each an “Eligible Winner” and collectively “Eligible Winners”) from all eligible Contest Entries submitted during the Contest Entry Period (the “Selection”). Within two (2) business days of the Selection, the Contest Sponsor, or its designated representative, will make a maximum of three (3) attempts to contact each Eligible Winner by emailing the Eligible Winner at the corresponding email address used to submit the eligible Contest Entry.  Each Eligible Winner must accept the Prize as awarded by the Contest Sponsor within ten (10) business days of the Selection or the Prize will be forfeited and awarded to an alternate Entrant in accordance with the foregoing provisions of this section, at the Contest Sponsor’s sole discretion. 

    5. Declaration of Eligible Winner. Before an Eligible Winner is declared a winner (after declaration, referred to as a “Winner” and collectively “Winners”), the selected Entrant must sign and return, within five (5) business days of notification, a declaration of compliance and release of liability prepared by the Contest Sponsor (the “Release”). In the Release, the Eligible Winner is required to, among other things: 
    • correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question without mechanical or other aid; 
    • confirm compliance with these Contest Rules; and
    • agree to release the Contest Sponsor, its governors, officers, employees, directors, representatives, and agents, and if applicable, any of their respective advertising or promotion agencies, and any other company or individual engaged in the provision of goods or services related to this Contest (collectively, “Contest Parties/Contest Representatives”) from any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs and expenses arising from any liability in connection with this Contest, the Winner’s participation therein and/or the awarding and use/misuse of the Prizes.
    1. The selected Entrant will be disqualified and forfeits all rights to the Prize if the selected Entrant: 
       
      • fails to correctly answer the skill-testing question; 
      • fails to return the properly executed Release within the specified time; 
      • violates any of Ontario Tech’s policies, procedures, standards, or guidelines during the Contest Period; or 
      • cannot be declared a Winner in accordance with these Contest Rules for any reason. 

    If the selected Entrant is disqualified, the Contest Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to select another Entrant via random draw (in which case the provisions of Section 8 apply to such new Eligible Winner).

    1. RIGHT TO SUSPEND/MODIFY/TERMINATE. If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, strike or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, the Contest Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Contest, or any part of it, and disqualify any individual or entity who is responsible for such action. If terminated, the Contest Sponsor may, in its sole discretion, determine the winners from among all eligible Contest Entries received up to time of such action using the procedures outlined herein. Any attempt to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution. 

    2. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY AND RELEASE. No liability or responsibility is assumed by the Contest Parties resulting from the Entrant’s participation in or attempt to participate in the Contest or ability or inability to upload or download any information to the Contest Sponsor website in connection with the Contest.  No responsibility or liability is assumed by the Contest Parties for: any technical malfunction or other problems of any nature whatsoever, including, without limitation, those relating to the telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment or software; the failure of any Contest Entry or other information to be received, captured or recorded for any reason whatsoever, including, but not limited to, technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website; or unauthorized human or non-human intervention of the operation of the Contest, including without limitation, unauthorized tampering, hacking, theft, virus, bugs, or worms.  The Contest Parties are not responsible for any printing, typographical, technical, computer, network or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest, the uploading, the processing of Contest Entries, the announcement of the Prize or in any Contest-related materials.  Use of the Contest Sponsor website is at the user's own risk.  The Contest Parties are not responsible for any personal injury or property damage or losses of any kind which may be sustained to user's or any other person's computer resulting from participation in the Contest.  The Contest Parties are not liable in the event that any portion of the Contest is canceled due to weather, fire, strike, acts of war or terrorism, or any other condition beyond their control.  

    3. By participating in the Contest, the Entrant agrees as follows: 
       
      • to release the Contest Parties from any and all claims, damages or liabilities arising from or relating to the Entrant’s participation in the Contest; 
      • under no circumstances will the Entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and the Entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, consequential, or any other damages; and
      • all causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, or any prize awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action.

    By accepting the Prize, Winner agrees that the Contest Parties will have no liability whatsoever for, and shall be held harmless by Winner against, any liability for injuries, losses or damages of any kind to persons or property resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation in the Contest or from the acceptance, possession, misuse or use of the Prize. 

    ANY ATTEMPT BY AN INDIVIDUAL, WHETHER OR NOT AN ENTRANT, TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE, DESTROY, TAMPER OR VANDALIZE THE CONTEST SPONSOR WEBSITE OR INTERFERE WITH THE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND THE CONTEST SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES AND DILIGENTLY PURSUE ALL REMEDIES AGAINST ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

    1. Privacy and Publicity Release. The Contest Sponsor and its authorized agents will collect, use and disclose the personal information provided upon registration and entry into the Contest for the purposes of administering the Contest and Prize fulfillment, in accordance with the Contest Sponsor’s privacy policy, available at https://usgc.ontariotechu.ca/policy/ By accepting a Prize, Winner consents to the publication and use of the name, address (city, province), voice, statements, photographs, images and/or likeness of any member of the Winner,  in any form, manner or media whether now known or hereafter devised, including, without limitation, in print, radio, television and on the Internet for any purpose in connection with the Contest including, without limitation, for the purposes of advertising and trade, promoting the Contest Sponsor, and/or the Contest, without further notice or compensation.  

    2. The Contest is governed in accordance with the domestic laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The Contest Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, and without prior notice, to adjust any of the dates and/or timeframes stipulated in these Contest Rules, to the extent necessary, for purposes of verifying compliance with these Contest Rules or for any other reason. In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these Contest Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials, the terms and conditions of these Contest Rules shall prevail, govern and control to the fullest extent permitted by law.
